4SD has now become a Foundation

We are proud to announce that since March 2023, 4SD is a Foundation! Over the last 3 years, 4SD has refined its accompanying practice and stands ready to take on new projects to foster dialogues and collaborative actions, support leadership teams, and accompany processes of change. 

It has been an extraordinary few years for 4SD Sarl (a social enterprise) since 2018, with many positive experiences, and our decision to become a Foundation represents a significant step forward in fully realising the public benefit of our work. Our mission is to work with all stakeholders, including nonprofits, governments, and the private sector, to advance sustainable development for people and planet. This mission is at the core of everything we do and is reflected in our guiding principles.

Our hybrid funding model is designed to ensure that we can continue to provide free services and resources as a public good while also developing paid services that enrich our partnerships. This model allows us to pursue our mission while also equipping a new generation of leaders that with the tools, skills and capabilities to support systems change.

As a Foundation, we are committed to advancing the common good and creating a more equitable and regenerative future for all. We believe that our new status will enable us to achieve even greater impact and make a meaningful difference in the world.

How we work as 4SD Foundation:

• Our focus on ‘sustainability, systems and self’ remains as strong as ever. We are guided through our work by the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, which recognises the need to work with, not against, the interconnectedness of systems and that we ourselves can make a difference, provided we are not overwhelmed by circumstances.
• We promote the styles and patterns of leadership that are urgently needed on a very large scale to tackle the major challenges with achieving just and sustainable development for the world’s people and for the planet, what we call “Living Systems Leadership“.
• We are focused on tackling complex and contested issues – in ways that are adapted to political, social and economic realities – at local, national, and global levels.   
• The Foundation’s vision is that by 2025 at least 100,000 leaders can make use of the practice of Living Systems Leadership: it is committed to making promising approaches widely available through its own programmes and through strategic partnerships with entities that share this vision and commitment.
